What is Chiropractic?Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculo-skeletal (bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, joints) and the nervous system. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuro-musculo-skeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.
Over the last 30 years the research supporting chiropractic treatment has flourished. Currently there is no question in the scientific communities mind that chiropractic works as well as pretty much anything else for many types of spine pain including lower back and neck pain, as well as several types of headaches. The research is favorable for chronic and acute pain and favorable for other joint pain syndromes as well. It is also one of the safest healthcare professions out there and one of the most cost effective.
The question now, however, is how in the world does it work? The fact is, scientifically speaking, we really don't understand very well how spinal manipulation works. There are some interesting theories and we would love to discuss them if you would like. But it's definitely not a bone out of place and we surely aren't re-aligning anything.
**The bottom line: we do know through contemporary, quality research that spinal manipulation works, it is exceptionally safe, and probably one of the most inexpensive treatments available.
